Magical Garden

Magic is always pushing and drawing and making things out of nothing. Everything is made out of magic, leaves and trees, flowers and birds, badgers and foxes and squirrels and people. So it must be all around us. In this garden - in all the places.”

― Frances Hodgson BurnettThe Secret Garden

It is, in my mind, the most coveted of qualities in a garden. Not a constant, but an ephemeral aura, that comes and goes...

with the morning light, with the dew, with the cool of the day and the beneficence of Mother Nature...

made of healthy, joyful scents and sounds...buzzing and fluttering and                                                 hovering...suspended in fleeting moment, setting, breeze and romance.

Difficult, if not impossible, to achieve here in our Oklahoma gardens.

Precious in its rarity, its artistry,
its individuality.

Ever elusive, ever transitory,

garden magic.

It was my joy, privilege really, to collaborate with talented others on the design of such a garden...in preparation for the Nichols Hills Garden Tour 2015.

A truly magical place. Inspired and tended by the owners' aesthetic: seed sown poppies and bachelor buttons, Queen Ann's Lace and Love in the Mist,

of fragrance and whimsy.

Blowzy hydrangeas and pots full of color

Mosses and lichens, tuteurs and birds bathing. Fairy tale cottage, of course.

Evergreen form and cascading color.

Azure water and accent. Bobbing blossoms and floral spire.

Such kindness to share their garden, to share the magic.

Prey tell. What would YOU have in your magical garden?
