Tulipa 'Menton'

"For in your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it
You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade"
                                                                   ~Irving Berlin

I am always delighted and amused to see the parade of cars going slowly by my house to see the spring show. Somewhat warily...lest they be thought stalkers, or potential thieves casing the house for nefarious intentions. But I know as well as they that their only prey are the tulips...oh, and the pansies and cabbages, and azaleas and...so much more.

I am delighted for obvious reasons. To give such pleasure to others...all whilst I am pleasing myself...is, well, quite pleasurable. It amuses me because oh so many years ago, when I was but a sprout of a gardener...

I would do the same thing. Slowly, carefully looking...to see if I could deconstruct the magic, and then

recreate it. So do feel free to drive by and study the details, but maybe I can be

of some assistance with the details. This pink, statuesque, lovely lady of a tulip is tulipa Menton. (Find them here at COLORBLENDS.) She is the perfect bloomer to begin the parade of a succession of tulips that follows her lead. The catalog describes Menton thusly:

"Menton is a rich pink with orange highlights that give it a hint of warmth. It looks beautiful on its own and combines easily with any of the other French "tulips. Great for cutting, too."

I can hardly disagree. She is, in most ways, the perfect tulip. She also, I might add, represents only 100 of the 600 or so tulips planted in this spring medley.

She begins the procession, and then, like us...

watches it unfold.
